captured: cole is ONE! {SnapShop giveaway}

I don't know how it happened, but my baby turned one on Monday. Cole (aka Bert) is the definition of a mama's boy... big & happy, always flashing that buck-toothed grin, walking more each day, making mischief any way he can, and still hardly sleeping a wink. He truly completes our family, and we are so thankful.

I am blessed to have amazing photographer friends like Mel, who help capture special occasions and milestones. I think I can snap a decent photo, and rarely leave home without my dslr... but the truth is, I have never so much as thumbed through the instruction manual. It has long been a goal of mine to learn to actually shoot in Manual, but- not unlike many other aspects of my life these days- how will I ever find the time?!

Enter Ashley Ann's SnapShop. This online photography course is a self-paced, 3 week workshop for beginners, focusing on the basics, composition, lighting and more! (Click the link for more details.) How perfect does that sound? Do you want a chance to dive into the curriculum along with me?

I thought so! Super sweet Ashley is giving away one spot in her next online SnapShop, which will run from September 5th through September 26th, and is a $200 value. So exciting! Jumping for joy!

To enter simply leave me a comment telling me why you, too, NEED to take this course. What inspires you to capture the beauty of the everyday?

For extra entries, go visit my friend Amy and click that little ChipIn button on the right! For every dollar donated toward bringing their new little guy home, you will receive an extra entry! (Just leave ONE extra comment with your total dollar amount, please.) I was lucky enough to spend a weekend in January with both Ashley and Amy, two incredible ladies who have forever touched my life (and who did lots of Cole-cuddling so I could get a little CRAFTing in).

That's it! Comment away!
I'll pick a winner at random on Monday 8/29 at 4pm pacific time... also known as my biggest baby, Chloe's TENTH birthday! It's a big week around here.

{I particularly love the inspiring story behind SnapShop, and I think you will too.}

...one-year photo shoot by Mel Larson.

I NEED to take this course because I want to make the transition from my higher end point & shoot to a dslr for Christmas. That, and the "manual" setting on my camera....I, um...don't know what I'm doing, and can't figure out how to fix whatever I've done wrong with it. In short, I need help.

I need to take this course to take my photography to the next level. I love taking pictures although I am not comfortable shooting in Manual mode. I want to kick off the training wheels and finally run free with my camera.

I NEED to take this course so that I can learn to become more aware of the light and my perspective and all the things that I don't think about when I go to take a picture.

I would LOVE to take better pictures of my sweet almost 2 year old. I want a "big girl" camera, but I am too intimated to buy one because I fear using it! So, this would be perfect!

Tanya said...

I bought a dslr last fall and I would LOVE to learn how to take full advantage of it and what it can do. The class sounds like it would very helpful. My husband has been trying to coach me through manual mode but I just can't seem to get it. I have two little ones and would love to capture their everday/special moments.

Like so many of us, I need this course so that I can understand that huge piece of machinery that we spent all that money on so that we could take awesome pictures of our kiddos!

I bought a dslr this spring and I would LOVE to learn how to really take advantage of it and get out of auto mode. I know this class would help me do just that. Thank you for the opportunity.

I am so particular about the composition of photos, but I don't know enough about the camera part to take good pictures. I NEED to take the SnapShop course so I can stop being critical of composition and take the photo myself!!

I love to take pictures but don't know a thing about the manual mode. All three of my kids are grown and gone BUT I have two precious grandsons that I would love to practice on. I need HELP!

I NEED to take this course because I have an awesome camera that just sits on a shelf in my closet. I am so intimidated by it, I only use my iPhone to take pictures!

I need to take this course because I am so ridiculously wasting my beautiful Nikon DSLR by shooting solely on Automatic. Seriously!? Don't tell my husband, cuz he let me buy the darn thing and I promised to learn "all about it" and well...it shoots nice on auto, doesn't it?! But I need more....

Kelli said...

First, that story is SO inspiring and just shows God's power. I love the sign that God threw 2 mountains. I NEED this because my kids are growing way too fast and I need to {nicely} capture them. I also just opened a card shop on etsy and need to get really nice shots of my cards so that I can get my business going.

WoW, I would love to win this chance to Ashley's photo class. I don;t have an inspiring story, but rather a practical one... We have 4 sons, lots of my pictures are taken indoors and always seem dark to me, I love taking pictures of my children and for my blog, however I am always disappointed with how my bloggy pics turn out dark and dreary... boo... However being a mother of 4 sons, an extra $200 for a photography class isn't real ideal for me or our family. Winning would be most awesome... I t would be nice to capture great photos before the boys are grown... hahaha

I NEED to take this course before baby #3 gets here!! It will be the first baby since I've had my dslr and I really really want to capture that first year (and of course to continue capturing the older two), on my own, at home, and maybe even in manual!!! Thanks for this giveaway - I've been waiting for it!!!

Winning a seat in the class is the only way I'll ever be able to afford it! We just started homeschooling our three boys and I would love to know what I'm doing when I'm taking pictures of our everyday goings on.

I need this class because for years everyone has told me how much better my photos could be if I'd simply read my manual. I work really hard at trying to read and understand my manual, but really who writes those things. I'd love this class and really wanted to pay the fee for a great cause and take the class. Unfortunately, it's a dream to be able to afford the class. Capturing life through the lens is a big joke on me. My husband likes to tease me that if I don't have photographs of it then it must not have really happened.

tonpia said...

If I've learned nothing else from all the crafty blogs out there, it's that your life can change in one teeny tiny second and that I need to record as much of it as I can. And If I'm going to be documenting it, I might as well make the pictures pretty. And to figure out what the f-stop is an f-stop?

Melissa said...

I simply want to be able to beautifully document the sacred mundane of our everyday lives, so we have something to look back on and remember because time is flying by way too fast in our home.

I don't want to miss all those picture perfect moments, children grow up way too fast!

the beauty of capturing the ordinary and seeing the extraordinary is something I found through blogging.
And that has been a gift.
While I can say with confidence, "I am an artist", or "I am a mother", or "I am a baker", I have never said, "I am a photographer."

And yet, I think there just might be one inside of me.

So for mothers day I got a fancy camera.
My goal this summer was to learn how to use it.

But the four kids were just too darn demanding...:-)

A course would lovely.
I could discover my potential and talent, and Nick can sleep at night knowing he didn't waste all that money on my camera :-)

I guess we all have moments we want to be able to freeze forever, that is what photography is all about. Though I was an art photographer in college, I care most about capturing my children and holding on to something that changes in front of me every day. I can't believe how fast they grow and I want to learn to use my camera to preserve those little moments my mind can't hold onto.

I NEED to take this course so that I can better translate the beauty around me on "film". I love photography and I love the ability to be able to capture a fleeting moment, a beautiful moment. My husband bought me my first dslr camera about a year and half ago. I love it, and the much better pictures it takes compared to a point and shoot. I love to take pictures of my family's and friend's kids. I am far from great, though. I have ventured to shooting in manual, and use a trial-by-error method :) Sometimes I have great pictures, but most times, they are mediocre. I would love to take this photography class so I can give my friends and family better pictures of their families.

I've just graduated with an English degree to teach English as a Second Language, having been unable to afford my campus' photography class or a trip to Tulsa.

I need this course so that I can capture the stories and memories of those I hope and pray to help abroad. Thank you both for the opportunity!

I NEED to take this course because of my two sweet little boys. I have ventured off the manual setting, but I have so so so far to go. I know the pictures I take could be so much better with some good instruction! Thank you for the chance!

I NEED to take this course because I don't know how to shoot in manual mode! I'm stuck in auto while trying to capture everyday moments of my 14 mo old son and new puppy.

I need to take this course because I want to move beyond capturing a pose to capturing a story. I am captivated by Ashley's pictures, and I want to learn some of what she knows.

Oh how I NEED this workshop! Although I took a photography class in college 20 (ahem!) or so years ago, EVERYTHING has now changed...cameras, digital-age, and family!!! I'm as helpless as can be with my dslr camera and desperately need help. Thanks for the opportunity to participate!

I NEED this course because I have a 15 month old who makes it impossible to take pictures unless it's of his back running away or blurry!!

I would love to take this course! I'm so needing to know how to use my camera better. But -- I think I would give the course to my daughter, who is already a great photographer but would benefit so much from the course and the things AshleyAnn has to share! She is the wife of a Marine and the mom of a little precious boy, my grandson :)

I have always been interested in learning photography and I love the work that Ashley does. I love the memories that photos provide and share.

After wearing through countless point and shoot cameras and plastering my facebook with thousands of pictures, I figured it was time to move to a DSLR. After months of paying it off, I finally own this kick-butt camera, which never leaves my side. I'm that girl, you know, that takes it everywhere. My friends get annoyed at how often I make them stop walking or pull over the car to get a shot. They think it's weird when I snap pictures of my friends hugging or my brother playing his guitar. But that's what I love. I want to capture every tender moment and every glorious landscape I come across, and somehow contain it to come back to and pass on. Of course, it'd be nice if my photography skills could do justice to the things I attempt to shoot. Being a broke college student, who knows if I'll ever be able to afford a legitimate college class... ESPECIALLY one as amaaaazing as Ashley Ann :) Therefore, I need to win. PLEASE?!?!!!?!

and wow, sorry I ramble.

We suddenly lost our precious Isabelle who was 2.5 years old in May. I knew I always treasured our photos, but now more than ever have I grown to appreciate life captured on film. For now, it is one of my only links to my sweet daughter. I really don't intend to pull the sympathy card - I really don't! But this is my reason, my reason for wanting to learn how to use our DSLR and capture our life as we heal, love and grow - and especially on our 16 month old son who is our saving grace. You can learn more about Isabelle on www.bubblesforisabelle.com Thanks for your consideration.

I have a dslr that I know my way around, but I want to be pushed to capture things more creatively. I want to make more pics of everyday life, including crying babies and choas. To remember what life really was like.

I NEED this course to bring me into the future! Over twenty-some odd years ago, I took photography classes in college, but everything has moved into the digital age since that time. I'm at a complete loss as to how to even use my dslr camera these days! Thanks for this opportunity!

I need this course....because I want to freeze these moments in my life...my kids are growing so fast. I LOVE how Ashley photographs her kids-they look natural, playful-in their element. I am tired of posed smiles, cheesy grins. I want my kids to be themselves in photos. Thanks for the chance!

I need to take this course because I am a mom to a recently turned 13 year old. Although we still have younger boys in our home, walking into the teens years has provided challenges in documenting the dailiness. I find it hard to capture "the moments" of our son. Gone are the days of diaper bottoms, toothless grins, wobbly first steps, and high chair catastrophes. But there is something uniquely special about this age although the snapshots don't normally fall into those "adorable" categories. I hope to capture the new moments - his shy smiles, his sweaty head of hair after football practice, his determination to learn something, all of the moments that too, will someday, be precious. And I want the knowledge to do so. Thanks for the giveaway!

OHH I really, really, really want to take this course!! I love how she captures the fun childhood moments. I have had my dslr for a year and a half and am just now feeling comfortable in Manual. I only take pictures of my kids (that's why I bought the camera) and LOVE capturing each day with pictures. I would love to actually know what I'm doing with the camera ;) Thanks for the opportunity!
