Cookie Monday

Just before Christmas my father-in-law, Bob, and I were talking about the goodies his mom made this time of year, when he was little.

I was intrigued & inspired when he said that she would take sugar cookie dough circles, and fold them in half with an orange slice candy tucked in.

I love citrus flavors in sugar cookies, and I LOVE orange slice candies!

So guess what Bob got for Christmas this year? I adapted the method a bit, but I could see the nostalgia in his face when he bit into one. He loved them. I loved them. Kevin did not love them. (He hates orange in baking... whatever.)

Orange Slice Sugar Cookies

-about 16 orange slice candies, diced
-your favorite sugar cookie dough

Mix candy chunks into the dough. Drop generous tablespoon sized balls of dough onto a lined cookie sheet. Bake according to your recipe. YUM.

Those orange candies hold sentimental value for me-- my Grandma used to keep them hidden in her china closet :) Great idea for cookies!

That is so thoughtful of you, as always. :) And I bet they tasted awesome! I was going to start thinking of a dessert you can custom create for me-- but I can't get past the thought of your Blood Orange Vanilla Bean Cheesecake... mmm...
