Here's to a 'SuperHealth'y 2009!

Happy New Year! Just in time for resolution-making, Dr. Steven Pratt has come out with yet another book in the SuperFoodsRx series, SuperHealth. I became a huge fan of SuperFoodsRx in 2005, after discovering the first book, which focuses on the fourteen most nutrient-dense foods that will change your life, improving health and longevity. Soon followed a second book, HealthStyle, adding ten more foods to the list, and complete with recommendations for improving mental health. I read both books cover to cover, and following the SuperfoodsRx way of life, I felt better than ever! Fast-forward to June 2006. Along came a fetus (later known as Camden), and during a very nauseous first trimester I seemed to have eaten one too many bowls of yogurt & berries. Fresh veggies? I couldn't look at them without feeling the urge to purge. Excuses aside, I never fully got back in the swing of SuperFoods post-pregnancy (and lately picked up the bad habit of drinking Coke almost daily). Instead, I have chosen to live vicariously through my children, enforcing strict dietary guidelines with them. They may be feeling fabulous, but needless to say, I am not feeling 'better than ever' these days. Sure, I avoid HFCS and anything hydrogenated... I try to eat yogurt every morning... I go organic whenever possible... but I admit I'm nowhere near where I want to be. My resolution (and Kevin's, by default) for 2009, and the next 90 or so years to follow, is not only to ensure a long and healthy life for my kids, but to take steps in order for me to live to see them turn 100 (and feel great getting there)! What do you know... this happens to be the basis of the brand new Border's purchase. Six simple steps (including detoxing your home- we should all be striving to be a little more green these days) to prevent the six major causes of death, becoming more vital than ever. With berries, dark chocolate, and cinnamon on the agenda (just to name a few)... how bad can it be?!

Yes, when I was following just adding more of the superfoods to my diet, I could feel the difference... of course I too have fallen off. If I could get the hubby on the bandwagon...

There is also a diet (weight loss) book in the series, which I haven't read. Otherwise, I would go with the latest book SuperHealth, as it is the most comprehensive. Yay Sis!

I need to get back on this, too!
